The Department of Medical Oncology and the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is actively recruiting new faculty members at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and/or Professor levels. These positions are for those pursuing research careers in cancer epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, behavioral science, behavioral medicine, and health services research. Jerome Hall Postdoctoral Fellowship at Indiana University-Bloomington
The Indiana University Center for Law, Society, and Culture will appoint up to three post-doctoral fellows per year beginning with the 2009-10 academic year. We invite applications from scholars of law, the humanities, or social sciences working in the field of sociolegal studies. Pre-tenure scholars, recently awarded PhDs, and those with equivalent professional degrees are encouraged to apply. Advanced graduate students may also apply, but evidence of completion of the doctoral degree or its equivalent is required before beginning the fellowship.
Fellows will devote a full academic year to research and writing in furtherance of a major scholarly project, and will receive a stipend plus a research allowance, health insurance, other benefits, and workspace at Indiana Law. General Description: The Department of Sociology at Queens College, City University of New York invites applications for a post-doctoral position. The successful candidate will participate in a study investigating the link between gated communities and residential segregation as part of a two-year research grant funded by NICHD. Urban scholars across disciplinary boundaries have recently focused on the costs and benefits of gated communities on larger areas but the empirical evidence is quite limited. Using an original dataset, constructed specifically for the purpose of the study, the project integrates theories and methodologies from urban sociology and urban geography to understand the increasingly important socio-economic impact of gated communities on urban America. The project is innovative and will lead to series of publications, conference participations and establish a solid ground for future research proposals.
Core Competencies/Qualifications: Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in hand, either in sociology or geography and start on February 1, 2009. he Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), a nonprofit think-tank that conducts research and policy analysis to address the needs of women, seeks to hire an Economist or other social scientist for its program on Employment Policy. General description
The Researcher will conduct quantitative analyses to explore women’s status, assess the impact of existing and proposed public policies, and educate policy makers, the public and other audiences. The current primary focus of IWPR’s employment policy program is paid leave and other aspects of job quality, especially those related to work and family balance. The Researcher will also consult on related IWPR projects such as cost/benefit analyses of child-care programs, higher education, and other key and emerging issues that affect women’s economic well-being. Besides conducting research and communicating it to IWPR’s audiences, the Researcher at IWPR also develops programs for future research and assists in securing funds for the Institute’s work. The Researcher also represents IWPR at meetings with other researchers, with local, state, and federal policymakers, and with coalitions working to enact policy change.
The position may be filled at any level (Program Director, Study Director, or Research Associate level) depending on the experience and qualifications of the candidate selected.

The Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University is working to build the first global population health data centre of comparative global data on public policies, equity, poverty, labour conditions and health and well-being outcomes. This data centre will make it possible to undertake rigorous, cross-country global comparative research on how public and social policies are affecting health and well-being across the world. To date, the WoRLD data centre contains information on labour conditions in 180 countries and equity and anti-discrimination provisions in 192 nations.
The Research Associate (RA) is a full-time position. The RA will interact and collaborate in an interdisciplinary research environment in studying how social policies affect population health, perform applied research with multilevel models to the social determinant of health, and promote policies for global health and well-being supported by comparative, evidence-based research. Awards
NYU will award five in-residence fellowships in 2009. The two-year appointments, which begin September 2009 and end August 2011, have a possibility of a third-year extension. Graduate students in the final year of their dissertation must make significant progress toward the dissertation. Fellows teach a maximum of one course per semester.
Stipends and Allowances
Fellows receive an annual stipend of $40,000, as well as allowances for housing ($20,000), research ($2,000), and one-time relocation ($3,000). The University also provides a medical and dental benefits package.

The Indiana University Center for Law, Society, and Culture will appoint up to three post-doctoral fellows per year beginning with the 2009-10 academic year. The Department of Sociology at Queens College, City University of New York invites applications for a post-doctoral position. The successful candidate will participate in a study investigating the link between gated communities and residential segregation as part of a two-year research grant funded by NICHD. Urban scholars across disciplinary boundaries have recently focused on the costs and benefits of gated communities on larger areas but the empirical evidence is quite limited. Using an original dataset, constructed specifically for the purpose of the study, the project integrates theories and methodologies from urban sociology and urban geography to understand the increasingly important socio-economic impact of gated communities on urban America. The project is innovative and will lead to series of publications, conference participations and establish a solid ground for future research proposals.
Core Competencies/Qualifications:

General description
The Researcher will conduct quantitative analyses to explore women’s status, assess the impact of existing and proposed public policies, and educate policy makers, the public and other audiences. The current primary focus of IWPR’s employment policy program is paid leave and other aspects of job quality, especially those related to work and family balance. The Researcher will also consult on related IWPR projects such as cost/benefit analyses of child-care programs, higher education, and other key and emerging issues that affect women’s economic well-being. Besides conducting research and communicating it to IWPR’s audiences, the Researcher at IWPR also develops programs for future research and assists in securing funds for the Institute’s work. The Researcher also represents IWPR at meetings with other researchers, with local, state, and federal policymakers, and with coalitions working to enact policy change.

The Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University is working to build the first global population health data centre of comparative global data on public policies, equity, poverty, labour conditions and health and well-being outcomes. This data centre will make it possible to undertake rigorous, cross-country global comparative research on how public and social policies are affecting health and well-being across the world. To date, the WoRLD data centre contains information on labour conditions in 180 countries and equity and anti-discrimination provisions in 192 nations.
The Research Associate (RA) is a full-time position. The RA will interact and collaborate in an interdisciplinary research environment in studying how social policies affect population health, perform applied research with multilevel models to the social determinant of health, and promote policies for global health and well-being supported by comparative, evidence-based research. The RA will both lead collaborative studies s/he designs and join this team to contribute to an exciting and unique effort to build the first global resource for understanding the impact of countries’ policies on the health and human development of their populations. In conjunction with the director and research staff at IHSP, the RA will take a lead in building this harmonized survey data bank for countries from around the world to be linked to the policy data for assessing their impact on the health and well-being of working families.

Awards
NYU will award five in-residence fellowships in 2009. The two-year appointments, which begin September 2009 and end August 2011, have a possibility of a third-year extension. Graduate students in the final year of their dissertation must make significant progress toward the dissertation. Fellows teach a maximum of one course per semester.
Stipends and Allowances
Fellows receive an annual stipend of $40,000, as well as allowances for housing ($20,000), research ($2,000), and one-time relocation ($3,000). The University also provides a medical and dental benefits package.
