Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who shared information this year and made it a little easier to get through one of the most difficult job markets in recent memory. A few people have mentioned that this might work better as a forum, so I have created one that mimics the format of the blog but should (hopefully) make it easier to sort through the information and find what you need. You can find it HERE. Please around with it - post any silly thing you want since it won't really be useful until this summer - and leave me comments on this thread if you'd like to see the forum format stay or go.

I think that the forum is a much better solution for these discussions than blog comments.

Forums work well for just about anything, tracking back is easier too. This post almost sounds as if the market is coming to a close. There there now, some previously frozen things may open up (despite the economic gloom and doom).

I like the forum, too. Perhaps we could even have separate threads by particular jobs, so we wouldn't have to read through people constantly asking about, say, Towson (no offense).

with the forum, you could start a new thread for info on a particular position and could easily search by school name. i like the forum.

I'm also pro-forum, for the reasons mentioned above. The blog structure (most recent comment last) is very awkward when looking for updates.

Thanks for doing this, BTW!

Whoever is the admin on here should delete the above post. It is part of an internet feud by students at Harvard. Pretty pathetic from what I can tell, as well as malicious.

I agree with 2:32 above. Not sure why the Harvard feud has infiltrated the sociology rumor mill (and likely other disciplines' rumor mills). HOPEFULLY, we don't have anything that petty, childish, and vindictive going on among sociologists searching for jobs.

The fact that Harvard students think their own intra-departmental political struggles are of central interest to sociologists outside Harvard reveals their own arrogance. We'd all laugh if political struggles going on at University of Vermont [or insert other non-ivy league] were spilling into the Rumor Mill, but since it's Harvard, no one seems to question it. Maybe their debate has something to do with larger political or epistemological issues (I haven't looked into it) and maybe it's just childish people being childish. But, let's keep it out of the public sociology forums unless you find something constructive to say about the discipline writ large.

Is there a new version of this site for this year's job market?

comment above: check out the post on Feb. 24 at 6:29 am. They're starting a discussion board. It's much easier to follow.
